Pakistan’s Best Band, Junoon, rocks the Presidency!
 
 

Asia’s biggest rock band Junoon headlined the first rock concert ever at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (“The Presidency”) in Islamabad in a special Azadi show in honour of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. Their Excellencies Prime Minister-designate Mr. Shaukat Aziz and President Pervez Musharraf joined Junoon on stage to sing “Jazba-e-Junoon”! It was an amazing feeling to be recognised by the industry and the fans. Ali and I were blown away by the applause that we got when we were announced (i had a tear in my eye since this alhamra hall was the first stage I'd ever played on in Pakistan,ali also did the bhangra while going up to the stage) apart from the people even the bands who were nominated came up to congratulate us. There was a real feeling of brotherhood last night and winning the award seemed like that all of the negativity of the past two years had been wiped away - Salman

JUNOON launches "Ghoom Taana" for Peace in South Asia.

Asia's leading rock band Junoon is back with a new pioneering and ambitious audio and video release entitled "Ghoom Taana". The song, written by Salman Ahmad, is a collaboration between Junoon and classical Indian vocalist Shubha Mudgal. The semi-autobiographical video, shot in both India and Pakistan (a first of its kind in this regard), has been directed by Saqib Malik with cinematography by Sanjay Kapoor. It features a narrative by Internationally acclaimed Indian actor Naseer-ud-Din Shah.

The video and a special documentary entitled "Building Bridges" was screened at a launch ceremony in Karachi in time for the Independence Day celebrations of Pakistan and India. The video is a short film about two neighbours, two cities, two nations, and their journey towards building bridges of Peace since their separation at Partition. Based on the true story of Salman's family's migration from Patiala to Lahore in 1947, the video has been shot partially in Salman's ancestors house Haveli Namdar Khan in Patiala City and in Lahore.. EMI Launches DEWAAR
"The Best of Junoon"
worldwide!
 

This new compilation by EMI features top new tracks by the South Asian sensation such as "Pappu Yar", "Taara Jala", etc. as well as the classic hits of "Sayonee", "Saeein", and many others. Also included on the disc is runaway hit "Garaj Baras" which featured on the original soundtrack of the Pooja Bhatt directorial debut Bollywood film "Paap". Previously unreleased anti-violence anthem "No More" is part of this new compilation. "Dewaar - The Best of Junoon" has already reached the stores in India and the Persian Gulf, and will shortly be in the US and UK/Europe as well. The album can be ordered from

Salman invited to speak at the U.N.'s HIV/AIDS CONFERENCE

In 2001 Salman was made U.N. spokesman for HIV/AIDs in Pakistan. He has personalized the "I care, do you" poster campaign by paraphrasing a popular Quranic saying "saving one life (from aids) is like saving the whole of humanity". He has appeared on television, radio and in the print media and gone into colleges in Pakistan to hold seminars with faculty and students about HIV/aids awareness. On Junoon's latest album Deewar he dedicated a very popular Junoon song "Khwab" to highlight the scourge of HIV/aids.

Salman is a passionate and committed artist/social activist who recently won an award for a documentary entitled, "Rockstar and the Mullahs", which he did for the American and British television channels PBS and the BBC respectively. More...

Salman's "ROCK STARS AND THE MULLAHS" Documentary Wins Top Honours At Saja
Awards!!!

The BBC internationally aired a documentary starring Salman Ahmad of Junoon recently entitled, "The Rock Star and the Mullahs". The documentary which covered Salman and Junoon taking on fundamentalists in Pakistan, has won the first place award at the South Asian Journalists Association Awards in the category of "Outstanding story on South Asia - Broadcast" category! The production company, "Wide Angle" beat out competition from top news outfits like 60 Minutes, Nightline, and CNN for first place!!!! The Awards ceremony will be held at Columbia University in New York City on the 20th of June where Junoon has been invited to attend to receive the award.

Junoon to perform at the Indus Music Awards
 on 24th July 2004!

Junoon has been invited to perform at the upcoming First Indus Music Awards ceremony to be held in Karachi in August. Junoon has been nominated for several awards. The Pioneers of rock in the region's #1 controversial rock hit "Pappu Yaar" has been nominated for Best song and Best video. The band's latest album "Dewaar" has been nominated for the Best Album category, among other nominations.

Junoon Rocked Lahore!
 
Lahore gives Junoon rousing welcome back:
Junoon, Pakistan’s biggest rock band, had the crowds dancing in the aisles at a rare performance in Lahore at the Alhamra Cultural Complex on Sunday night.

However, once Salman Ahmed hit the first chords for ‘Garaj baras’, the crowd forgot their anger and jumped out of their seats. In fact, all hell broke loose: some jumped on the railings, some on their chairs, others stood and swayed their hands in the air singing with the band. Salman Ahmad said that Junoon's next video, Ghoom Tana, will be released on August 14.

Junoon plays at Metcalf Hall
 
Both young and old came out to the George Sherman Union's Metcalf Hall Sunday to experience a night of music and culture with a band that is sometimes referred to as "The U2 of Asia." Cheering, dancing and clapping to the bass driven rhythm, about600 people showed how much they enjoyed Junoon, a Pakistani rock band known for its messages of patriotism and peace. group of young people in the front row waved a Pakistani flag throughout the concert. Maharajah of Patiala invites Junoon close Patiala Festival!!
 
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maharaja Amarinder Singh, has invited Asia s Biggest Rock Band, Junoon, to perform at the closing ceremony of the Patiala Festival. On learning that Salman and Shehryar Ahmad of Junoon s ancestors were among the rulers of Patiala, the birthplace of their mother, the Maharani of Patiala has invited the band to visit their ancestral heritage sites in Patiala on their upcoming tour of India.

Junoon have released their platinum-selling album Dewaar, which has caused a furore in Pakistan with the hit singles "Pappu Yaar", "Garaj Baras", "Taara Jala", "No More", and others, in India and internationally through EMI Records. Junoon has also been invited to perform at the Shivratri Festival in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, by the Government of Himachal Pradesh on the 24th of February.
